Lewis Hamilton dropped a bombshell on the F1 landscape this week by agreeing to join Ferrari from Mercedes in 2025. The seven-time world champion had been in situ since 2013 and previously claimed that he would finish his career with the Silver Arrows.

The decision is expected to generate a lot of interest because Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz will require a new seat after the current season ends. In the meantime, Mercedes needs to find George Russell a new partner who can push the team to victory and compete for victories.

The idea of Hamilton collaborating with the gifted Charles Leclerc in his latter years to pursue a record-breaking eighth Drivers’ Championship and beat Max Verstappen has fans’ mouths watering.

George Russell comments backfire

There has long been speculation connecting Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari.

Indeed, it was so prevalent in the previous season that Channel 4 host Steve Jones grilled George Russell on the topic.

He joked, “What do you think about Lewis going to Ferrari?”

Russell responded with a resounding “That won’t happen.” Was it something you saw in The Daily Mail? Who knows what would occur before then? I’m not sure.”

Since then, the Mercedes driver’s arrogance has come back to haunt him, and in 2025, Russell will be competing with a new teammate.

Lewis Hamilton ‘blindsided’ Toto Wolff

Lewis Hamilton’s 2025 decision to leave Mercedes and join Ferrari is said to have shocked Toto Wolff to no end.

The F1 driver only told Wolff about his choice, according to The Telegraph, during a scheduled meeting on Wednesday morning at the Oxfordshire home of the team principal—the day before the announcement was made public.

As a result, Mercedes was forced to rush to call a team meeting for later that afternoon and let the employees know that Hamilton was leaving.

And so, in preparation for the 2025 season, they will begin the difficult task of replacing the British player.
