Tony Finau made decisions after talks with Jon Rahm’s LIV Golf team

Tony Finau has committed to another season on the PGA Tour after being heavily linked with a move to LIV Golf.

Finau, who refused to downplay the reports this past weekend, stated on Instagram that he would follow Jon Rahm’s path to the Saudi-backed circuit. Finau announced that he will defend his titles in the upcoming season at the Mexico Open and Houston Open. He will also compete in the Sentry Tournament of Champions, which will take place in Hawaii from January 4–7.

Rahm’s recent decision to switch from the PGA to LIV created a stir in the golf community. The World No. 3 and defending Masters champion apparently inked a multi-year contract worth £450 million.

Rahm and Finau are good friends, and according to a number of reports, Finau may be prepared to accept a sizable offer of his own to leave the PGA Tour and join LIV. However, he has since promised to stick with the PGA Tour.

He posted on Instagram, saying, “We’ve completed the 2023 season! My sixth victory on the PGA Tour came at the Mexico Open, capping off an amazing and unique season. A notable achievement was winning the tour championship for seven consecutive years!

“As this year draws to a close, I’m thankful for the chance to play the game I love and to compete at the top level. I’m thrilled to be playing on the PGA Tour for the tenth season in 2024! And excited to be defending in Houston as well as Mexico!

Finau will not join LIV Golf

“Thank you to my partners for your continued support. Thank you to the fans for all the love for our whole Finau fam. See y’all in Maui! #imnotleaving.”

Before this past weekend, many had assumed that he would sign with LIV, as reports had indicated when he declined to rule out the possibility.

He told Sports Illustrated, “No, not yet,” in response to a question about his name being connected to a LIV move and whether he had anything to say. I’m just playing right now; I haven’t let anything marinade.

Finau has had a great start to the PGA Tour’s LPGA Tour crossover event in Florida, and there have been rumors that Greg Norman and company may be planning to give him a big contract.
