Rory McIlroy caddie criticism making Shane Lowry’s ‘blood boil’ at The Open

Harry Diamond, caddie for Rory McIlroy, faced backlash following the horror that was his US Open experience at Pinehurst last month.

Shane Lowry maintains that his “blood boils” when he hears criticism of Rory McIlroy’s caddie, Harry Diamond.

Following their painful US Open experience last month, Irishman Lowry fiercely defended McIlroy and his man on the bag.

With five holes remaining in last month’s Pinehurst championship, four-time major winner McIlroy was ahead by two shots, but bogeys on three of his final four holes allowed Bryson DeChambeau to win by one stroke.

When criticised for his choice of clubs, McIlroy’s caddie was dismissed by Lowry with a laugh. “That’s the one thing that really drives me insane,” he stated. I literally can’t stand it when I see people criticizing Rory and Harry after I’ve watched him miss those two putts and lose.

Lowry is aiming to win his second Claret Jug at Royal Troon this week, but McIlroy is undoubtedly the center of attention following his near-miss at the US Open. However, he mocked those who work on tour and strive to gain attention while also dismissing suggestions that his friend should be switching caddies in light of what transpired at Pinehurst.

“It is my observation that every week, every week, that the greatest caddy for Rory McIlroy is Harry Diamond. He puts in more effort than any other caddie here and consistently arrives ahead of him on the course.”

“Despite not being in the middle of the tee box like all these caddies who want to be on TV talking loudly and telling Rory what to do, he’s there for him and he still makes his voice heard.”

“You’ll never know how something is until you experience it firsthand. I have lived the situation, as I have said. Nobody should be able to comment on it, in my opinion.
