After voicing his displeasure with his awful Mercedes, Lewis Hamilton hinted that the Brazilian Grand Prix might be his final race for the Silver Arrows, casting doubt on the remainder of his season.
“Unacceptable” is how Lewis Hamilton described the Mercedes he was forced to drive at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
After what he described as a “disastrous” weekend at Interlagos, where the car was at its “worst it’s ever been,” the seven-time Formula One world champion finished in tenth place. The 39-year-old finally hit breaking point with Mercedes on the 16th anniversary of his first world championship in Brazil.
After declaring in February that he would be racing for Ferrari the following season, Hamilton started the F1 Sprint in 14th place, finished in 11th place, and qualified in a disappointing 16th. An audio recording of Hamilton talking to his engineers during the warm-up lap seemed to imply that he had competed in his final race for Mercedes amid his tirade against the dreaded W15.
“Dudes, that weekend was a complete bust,” he remarked. But I appreciate that you’re still trying. The men at the pitstop did a fantastic job. It’s unfortunate that it wasn’t very good, but I’m thankful for you if this is my last opportunity to perform.”
The Formula One calendar will take a brief hiatus before returning to Las Vegas for the first of the final three races. Because of his remarks, there is a lot of conjecture that Hamilton might quit Mercedes before the season is even over. Some speculated that the British driver was merely referring to a pit crew swap for the final three races in Abu Dhabi, Qatar, and Las Vegas.
Meanwhile, the legendary driver’s post-race message left Mercedes perplexed. According to the Telegraph, the team stated that Hamilton would not be stepping down for the final tripleheader.
Hamilton, who joined the Brackley team in 2013 and established the most prosperous driver-team alliance in the history of the sport, has now spoken out again about his difficult weekend.
Hamilton remarked, “These poor races in the second half of the season are devastating.” “All I can say, though, is that we’re making an effort going into the weekends, but it is unquestionably unacceptable and insufficient.
“We and I both need to accept responsibility, but I’m driving and making the most of what I have. I have no idea what it is; we’ll have to find out. The car has been the worst [in Brazil].
“But there is definitely potential because the mechanics did a great job getting here and doing practice stops at 4am, and one of the cars was working a lot better with all the work they’ve done on the car throughout the weekend.”
