Max Verstappen under investigation after Brazilian GP sprint as devastating penalty looms

Following the Sao Paulo sprint race, Max Verstappen is currently being investigated.

Max Verstappen faces a five-second time penalty for allegedly violating the rules regarding virtual safety cars during the Brazilian Grand Prix sprint race.

The VSC appeared to be a possible present for Verstappen, who had closed right up to the back wing of Oscar Piastri’s McLaren, when Nico Hulkenberg pulled over on lap 23 due to a mechanical problem.

But now that the FIA stewards are investigating a possible infraction, it could cost him a valuable point and put him behind Charles Leclerc in the classification.

In response to a question from Sky Sports F1 regarding the investigation, team principal Christian Horner said, “On everything that we can see it looks ok, but let’s see.”

“I think the most encouraging thing in that race for us was that the race pace was decent to stick on the tail for 24 laps, to pass Charles,” he added, providing additional background on the Dutchman’s race. That gave me hope. I believe that we are beginning to grasp some things.
