Joaquin Niemann said the following, excerpted from Sports Illustrated:
It’s what I do, and I believe that there is a small crisis at the moment that needs to be resolved. I simply play golf for another week and, like I did last year, try to earn my way into the majors.
Niemann discussed how he would go about earning points that would enable him to make it into the Majors. The Chilean intends to carry out his 2024 actions again:
“I’d be thrilled to perform at some DP World Tour events. Yes, I would love to play some events, but I’m not sure if I’ll be allowed. Yes, if I can obtain a World Ranking and try to gain a spot in the major leagues.
During the first round of the Olympic competition, Joaquin Niemann led the seven LIV Golf competitors. Carlos Ortiz finished in a tie for fourteenth place, while Jon Rahm tied for sixth. After the round, Adrian Meronk finished in a tie for 49th place, Abraham Ancer was tied for 29th, and David Puig and Mito Pereira were tied for 21st.
How did Joaquin Niemann fare in the opening round of the Olympic competition?
Joaquin Niemann made par on the first two holes to start the Paris 2024 Olympic Golf Event’s first round. Then, on the par-5, 564-yard third hole, he stunned the crowd with an amazing eagle.
Niemann added two more birdies to his score and finished the front nine without making any bogeys. He parred the first four holes on the back nine before making birdies on the 14th and 15th.
The Chilean shot par on the sixteenth and seventeenth holes, but his only bogey of the round came on the eighteenth. He finished with five points below the 66 mark.
Niemann is currently three strokes behind the leader Hideki Matsuyama through eighteen holes, tied for third place with Emiliano Grillo and Tom Kim.
After having his best season yet on the LIV Golf circuit, the Chilean golfer traveled to Le Golf National. Out of 11 tournaments, he won two and finished in the top ten eight times.
In 2024, Niemann took part in three out of the four major championships (Masters, PGA Championship, Open). He finished T22 at Augusta National, T39 at Valhalla, and T58 at Royal Troon after making the cut in all three events.
