Reasons stacking up for ‘hot’ Brooks Koepka to defend USPGA crown

Next week, Brooks Koepka will be defending his PGA Championship title at Valhalla, and according to his putting coach Pete Cowan, the American is in excellent form as he makes his way to Kentucky.

The reigning champion, Brooks Koepka, is “hot” right now and poised to win the US PGA this week to add to his record-tying fourth LIV championship. Former US Open champion Andy North has dubbed the American a “contract killer” who is determined to win his sixth Major in Kentucky.

Since winning the US Open for the first time in 2017, no one has more major victories than the former world number one. Additionally, streaky Koepka, who won in Singapore earlier this month with 17 birdies in 54 holes, is back in form to defend his title at Valhalla, according to his short-game expert Pete Cowen.

The Yorkshireman declared, “He is among the best players in the world.” “He is unquestionably involved; that much is clear. Additionally, he always has the bit between his teeth and exudes confidence after winning.

“He tends to run hot when he’s hot. He has, in my opinion, previously demonstrated his ability to compete with anyone when he is at his best. Nobody else has won as many majors as he has since 2017. Though he has played in six LIV events and the Masters, which is essentially enough, he hasn’t played as much competitive golf as he would have liked.

“He performed admirably in Adelaide and then, predictably, prevailed in the heat in Singapore. He looks fantastic. Despite winning four times in the past two months and being ranked as the world’s no. 1 player, Scottie Scheffler did not participate in the Wells Fargo Championship due to his wife Meredith’s high pregnancy.

Though he finished tied for 45th at the Masters, Koepka—who gets his love of brown sauce and Manchester United from his Ulster caddie Ricky Elliot—won his first event as a father in Singapore. “I’ve always wanted Jenna and Crew to be there for me when I win,” he remarked. “I feel good about my game. Everything is beginning to make sense. I’ve worked very hard.

Despite having two knee surgeries and a confidence crisis throughout his career, world No. 37 rises to the big occasion and has won more Majors than regular PGA Tour titles (four) or LIV Golf events. “Generally, I feel like I make it when there’s a clutch putt,” Koepka, 34, stated. “My ability to lock in and go somewhere that I think a lot of guys can’t go is probably the big thing that kind of separates me.”

Along with Jack Nicklaus and Walter Hagen, he is currently the only player to win the US PGA three times in a six-year period. He now has the opportunity to go win his sixth Major and tie the record set by Sir Nick Faldo and Lee Trevino.

“Simply put, he’s a contract killer,” ESPN analyst North stated. When he opens his locker after winning a major championship, it’s like he’s been assigned a mission from “Mission Impossible”: “Go kill somebody this week.” He plays golf at major championships with that mentality. I adore it.
