This year’s past champions dinner at the Masters will be hosted by Jon Rahm, the Spaniard, who will be reuniting with his former PGA Tour teammates at Augusta National.
The Champions Dinner menu that Jon Rahm, the 2023 Green Jacket winner, has chosen, is inspired by his Basque heritage and will be served at the Masters next month.
At Augusta National in April of last year, Rahm won his second major championship of his career, defeating fellow LIV Golf star Brooks Koepka to win the coveted title. He has now finalized the menu he will serve his fellow winners at this year’s Champions Dinner, which he will have the honour of hosting.
Naturally, the Spanish chef’s menu has many influences from his native land. To begin, a variety of tapas is offered, such as Iberico ham, Mama Rahm’s Traditional Lentil Stew, spicy Basque chorizo and potato, Spanish omelette, and creamy chicken fritters.
The “first course” will be a potato and Basque crab salad, followed by a main course of turbot and Navarra white asparagus or a Basque ribeye steak with Tudelo lettuce and piquillo peppers. A Miljojas de Crema y Nata, which consists of puff pastry cake, custard, and Chantilly cream, is served to round out the meal.
Rahm will be able to socialize with his fellow winners, many of whom he won’t be seeing very often since moving to LIV Golf. Stars from the PGA Tour, such as Adam Scott, Jordan Spieth, Hideki Matsuyama, and Scottie Scheffler, will be present.
The legendary Tiger Woods, who is anticipated to make his second start of the season at Augusta, will also be available for a reunion. Prior to his transfer to the breakaway league, Rahm and Woods had a close relationship that seems to have weakened a little.
Speaking after his recent move, Rahm acknowledged that he texted Woods and Rory McIlroy following his decision to defect, but that he never heard back from the latter. Rahm told ESPN, “Well, I mean, Rory has been supportive of my decision both publicly and privately.”
“A tiger? No, not at all [got an answer]. When I signed, I texted him and the people who had reached out to me during the process, telling him, “Hey, this is a personal decision, I have nothing against anybody.”
Naturally, Rahm won’t be the only person in the room representing the LIV setup. Past Masters champions Phil Mickelson, Patrick Reed, Sergio Garcia, Dustin Johnson, Bubba Watson, and Charl Schwartzel are among the top players in the breakaway league and will be present at the table in Georgia. Legendary figures from the sport will also be present, including former champions Nick Faldo, Gary Player, and Jack Nicklaus.
