Christian Horner, the under-fire Red Bull team manager, has refuted any disagreements with Max Verstappen and the world champion’s father, Jos.
The 50-year-old Horner is still being investigated by Red Bull Racing over claims of inappropriate behavior, which he vehemently disputes and which are believed to have been made by a female coworker. Three weeks prior to the commencement of the new Formula 1 season, there have been allegations of a confrontation between the team principal and CEO and the two Verstappens.
To introduce Red Bull’s new vehicle ahead of the 2024 campaign, Horner made his first public appearance since the investigation’s start on Thursday. Horner confirmed to Sky Sports that there was no conflict between the three-time world champion Verstappen and his father, Jos: “No, not at all.”
“A few days ago, Jos and Max and I visited Silverstone. Max is totally committed to his work. He’s been really encouraging, and I’m excited for our upcoming season together.
Though rumors will inevitably surface, we are a cohesive team; that is who we have been and will always be. We wouldn’t be where we are today without the incredible support of the shareholders. Therefore, that isn’t accurate.”
When questioned further about his relationship with Dutch driver Max Verstappen, Horner restated, “It’s great. We’ve had a few encounters; I’ve been on the simulator, and he was present when we were filming. Together, we have accomplished a great deal, so don’t expect that to change overnight.”
In response to the charges of unsuitable conduct, which he vigorously contested throughout a full day of interrogation at Red Bull’s Milton Keynes headquarters on Friday, Spice Girl Geri Halliwell’s husband continued, “This is business as usual.” Naturally, I refute all of the charges that have been leveled against me, but I will cooperate with the investigation, which I hope will be finished soon.
“I am unable to comment on the specifics of that process. I clearly trust the process and am working with it, and I vehemently refute any accusations that have been made. I just keep working within that process until it comes to an end.”
Verstappen offered his perspective on the matter while appearing at ease, saying: “I’m not sure who enjoys writing these kinds of things. But it seems like it always is to Christian and me.
“As for me, I’m totally focused on my own performance—that is, getting ready, staying in shape, being ready to operate the vehicle, talking with the engineers about what I want to accomplish. Moreover, F1 is not my entire life. Outside of my scheduled training, I try not to think about Formula One too much when I’m at home.
“I’m busy enough at home because I have a lot going on in the background for what I want to do in the future, including the virtual racing side of things that I’m working on.”
