I’ve been informed that a severe case of food poisoning may force a postponement of LIV’s opening event at Mayakoba today. Officials have not confirmed this, but at least 20 players and caddies have been sick over the course of the previous two days. I hope it’s not anything too severe.

Shotgun starts for the first round of LIV Golf Mayakoba are scheduled for 6.15 p.m. (UK time), or 12.15 p.m. local time in Mexico.

Flushing It tweeted:

Twenty minutes later, the social media account followed up with:

“LIV hasn’t answered yet, but I’ll be shocked if they play today. Reports of sick players who are seriously impacted are growing. Not good!”

Though James Corrigan of the Telegraph has since confirmed the information, he also believes that the first round will probably go as scheduled.

Alongside his new teammates Tyrrell Hatton, Kieran Vincent, and Caleb Surratt, Jon Rahm is scheduled to make his LIV Golf debut.

Rahm has joined a new team, Legion XIII.

LIV hasn’t responded yet, but if they play today, I’ll be shocked. There are increasing reports of sick players who are severely affected. Bad!

This season, Lucas Herbert, a former winner of the PGA Tour, and Adrian Meronk, the DP World Tour Player of the Year, have joined Martin Kaymer’s Cleeks GC and Cameron Smith’s Ripper GC, respectively, as new players on LIV Golf.
