The PGA Tour turned to 15-time major champion Tiger Woods to rally support amid heavy investment from Strategic Sports Group on the eve of the 2024 season

Tiger Woods praised Strategic Sports Group (SSG) and the PGA Tour for their amazing $3 billion (£2.4 billion) investment agreement. In the midst of the ongoing conflict with LIV Golf, the 15-time major champion praised the potential growth and thanked SSG for “believing in our sport.”

The PGA Tour and SSG, a group led by Liverpool owner John W. Henry, concluded negotiations on Tuesday night, and the agreement was made public the following morning. SSG pledged an immediate $1.5 billion (£1.2 billion) cash infusion, with the possibility for that investment to grow over time.

The owners of the Atlanta Falcons, Arthur Blank, and the New York Mets, Steven A. Cohen, are also members of this massive investment group. The enormous agreement with SSG will allow nearly 200 members of the PGA Tour to hold equity in PGA Tour Enterprises as a thank you for remaining devoted and forgoing LIV Golf.

Even though the US government is currently interfering, negotiations to merge the PGA Tour and LIV Golf are still ongoing. PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan has faced a lot of criticism since the arrival of LIV Golf. However, Woods supported the Tour during a conference call with executives and new investors.

During the PGA Tour conference call after SSG’s investment, Woods introduced himself as Tiger Woods. I just wanted to express my gratitude to SSG for having faith in our sport and in us. Having faith in the growth we could experience together. The game of golf is incredible. It has facilitated the growth and healing of communities. And as a team, we’re going to make that offer in accordance with what we think represents the meritocracy and rightful compensation that our sport has been founded upon for so long.

“As previously said, we grow as the Tour grows,” he continued. Thus, the more money we put into the Tour, the more it benefits us. which in the history of sports has never occurred. Thus, we are the pioneers. It’s exciting that I can take part in that.

Woods has helped the PGA Tour in its battle with LIV Golf in a number of ways by saying and doing things. Several of the top players on the PGA Tour have committed to play for six different teams in The Golf League (TGL), which was announced by Woods and McIlroy last summer. The teams are Atlanta Drive GC, Boston Common Golf, TGL New York, TGL San Francisco, Jupiter Links GC, and LAGC.

The top four teams in the league will face off in the playoffs to determine who will win the 2023 championship after the 15-week season ends. Shots will be made into a simulator screen during the matches, which will take place at Palm Beach State College’s cutting-edge SoFi Center.

Woods is currently recuperating from surgery in order to be ready to compete in the 2024 season. In December, he participated in the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas, where he placed 18th. On February 15, he is scheduled to play in The Genesis Invitational at Riviera Country Club.
