Jon Rahm has been handed the chance to run his own LIV Golf team ahead of his maiden season on the breakaway circuit, but the Spaniard is yet to announce his teammates
With less than a week to go until the opening event of the 2024 LIV Golf season at Mayakoba, golf fans are eagerly waiting to see who will make up Jon Rahm’s team.
Last month, Rahm signed a record-breaking contract worth an estimated £450 million, making him possibly LIV’s biggest coup to date. Rahm was given the opportunity to lead his own team as part of his deal, but no formal announcement regarding his starting lineup has been made as the opening game approaches.
According to numerous reports, the Spanish stars’ team will be called Legion XIII, and Rahm’s new organization is expected to drastically alter how the league operates.
Across 12 teams, LIV used 48 players in its first two seasons of operation. Naturally, with Rahm joining the team, this will now consist of 13 teams and 52 players. Two more wildcard players will be added by the Breakaway League, increasing the total number of competitors to 54 for each event.
A plethora of names have been connected to Rahm ahead of the first event in Mexico on Friday. These people, who range from a Ryder Cup partner to an LIV Q-School alum, are anticipated to join Rahm on the Legion team.
Tyrrell Hatton
In recent days, a number of reports have revealed that Englishman Tyrrell Hatton is set to become the next big name to join LIV Golf. Hatton had initially sounded out his chances of making the Saudi switch, admitting he was happy with the DP World Tour and PGA Tour at last week’s Dubai Desert Classic.
However, things seem to have quickly turned around, and Hatton is about to join Rahm as a teammate for the trip to Mexico. After competing for Team Europe and winning two Ryder Cups together in 2018 and 2023, the two have a close relationship.
At the Ryder Cup, Hatton and Rahm have also competed side by side, winning both of their matches in Rome last autumn when paired together.
Kieran Vincent
Additionally, rumors have it that the Spaniard plans to include Kieran Vincent on his roster come 2024. Following his placing among the top three at the breakaway league’s Promotions event in Abu Dhabi last month, Vincent secured a spot on the LIV lineup for the upcoming season.
For the upcoming season, the Zimbabwean sensation will travel with his brother Scott, who is a member of Kevin Na’s Iron Heads. As a replacement for the injured Jason Kokrak at last year’s event in Washington, D.C., Kieran already has some experience with LIV.
Caleb Surratt
In the upcoming days, Rahm is also anticipated to bring 19-year-old Caleb Surratt into his squad. One of the future stars of golf, Surratt will turn pro and enter the breakaway league, following in the footsteps of Eugenio Lopez-Chacarra and David Puig.
Although the American sensation is a University of Tennessee golfer, he has already proven his value on a national level. Surratt played three times as an amateur on the PGA Tour in addition to being a member of the United States’ victorious Walker Cup team at St Andrews last year.
