Jon Rahm has been banned from playing on the PGA Tour.
Jon Rahm may still compete on the DP World Tour in May even though he defected to LIV Golf. The PGA Tour has barred Rahm from participating in their events due to his “association with a series of unauthorised tournaments” following the signing of his £450 million contract with LIV.
But unlike the PGA Tour, the DP World Tour requires its LIV rebels to seek releases from events that conflict with their schedule rather than outright prohibiting them.
Furthermore, Rahm would have no trouble teeing it up on the Middle East swing next month because the LIV season does not begin until February.
Rahm remarked, “One of the best things about LIV Golf is that it allows me to play in other events.”
Normally, the winner of the Masters would have defended his titles at The Sentry in Hawaii and The American Express in California the following month. Instead, he would have begun his year in the United States.
But now that the PGA Tour’s rigid response to his shocking announcement has closed that door, he may now turn to the DP World Tour.
Rory McIlroy is the defending champion of the high-profile Dubai Desert Classic, which takes place the week after the Dubai Invitational on January 11.
Rahm has two weeks before the competition begins to determine whether to enter. Rahm is still a member of the DP World Tour, having renewed his membership last month.
When he signed with LIV, he stated that he wanted to compete in the September Spanish Open on the DP World Tour. He remarked, “I’ve previously stated how important the Spanish Open is to me.”
