Bryson DeChambeau makes Rory McIlroy claim after golfer storms out of US Open

Following the Northern Irishman’s most recent setback, US Open champion Bryson DeChambeau had nothing but good things to say about PGA Tour star Rory McIlroy.

After yet another major heartbreak, Bryson DeChambeau had nothing but good things to say about Rory McIlroy.

After a dramatic afternoon, DeChambeau won the 2024 US Open on Sunday night at Pinehurst No. 2.

Given that he had a two-shot lead with five holes remaining, McIlroy’s detractors will contend that he choked once more.

The 35-year-old Northern Irishman overcame DeChambeau’s three-shot deficit from the previous night, but he disastrously ruined his chances at the 16th and 18th holes by missing par putts that were within four feet of the hole.

With a composed four-foot putt that was preceded by one of the most amazing 50-yard bunker escapes in recent memory, DeChambeau secured his second major championship.

In the scorer’s hut, McIlroy could not believe what was in his eyes; his expression said it all.

Refusing to give interviews to the media, he made the decision to leave without staying to congratulate the American LIV Golf player.

DeChambeau told reporters, “Rory is one of the best players I have ever played.”

It is truly exceptional to be able to battle such a great. I would never wish that on anybody, including him, to miss that putt. That’s just how things turned out.”

“He’ll win multiple more major championships,” he continued. Without a doubt. I believe the fire within him will only intensify further.

“I have the utmost respect for the way he plays golf because, to be honest, I was like, ‘Uh-oh, uh-oh,’ when he was two ahead on the leaderboard.

But happily, things worked out for me.

In 2024, McIlroy will get one more chance to break his significant drought at the Open Championship held at Royal Troon the following year.

Who knows how he will react after this blow.

McIlroy will get back up and be prepared to play, based on past performances.

“It’s going to be Ryan,” DeChambeau continued.

“I wish we could fight for a long time more. It would be a great time. However, Rory will definitely carry it out eventually.”
