At LIV Golf Houston, Bryson DeChambeau offers his assessment of Pinehurst No. 2, the site of the US Open, and discusses the origins of his new mustache.

A fresh appearance Before LIV Golf Houston, Bryson DeChambeau couldn’t help but engage in a flirtatious exchange of banter with a female reporter.

At this week’s latest LIV Golf League event at the Golf Club of Houston, 30-year-old DeChambeau made an impressive appearance sporting a new moustache.

It started when someone said, “He could look good with a’stache.'”

Additionally, he recently produced a YouTube video in the “old school style,” which he continued to use for this week’s competition.

Whether the mustache is still present for the US Open at Pinehurst next week will probably depend on how well he performs in Houston.

The big-hitting American DeChambeau is expected to have a strong performance this week as he travels to Houston following an impressive solo second place finish at the US PGA at Valhalla behind Xander Schauffele.

DeChambeau, who has four top-10 finishes from the first seven LIV Golf League events of 2024, achieved his second consecutive top-10 finish in the majors.

At The Masters, DeChambeau came in sixth place.

In the majors, DeChambeau has two top-10 finishes in 2024.

DeChambeau, along with the circuit’s newest addition, Jon Rahm, begins this week’s LIV Golf Houston as a joint favorite (8/1) thanks to his recent performances.

The Crushers GC captain hasn’t won a single match since September 2023, but despite this, a female reporter claimed he was “arguably the hottest golfer on the planet right now.”

DeChambeau agreed and retorted, asking, “Is it the’stache?” before whispering, “I’m kidding,” under his breath.

The reporter chuckled and remarked, “It’s the’stache for sure,” before laughing even harder.

“I think you’re the sexiest golfer on the planet right now, Bryson.”

After a little while, the reporter cooled off and asked DeChambeau what was going through his mind in preparation for his attempt to win a second career US Open title the following week.

With a decisive six-stroke victory at the 2020 US Open—which was held at Winged Foot without golf fans due to the COVID lockdown—he won his first major championship.

The reporter asked him about his expectations for the coming week and whether Pinehurst No. 2 was a good fit for his style of play.

DeChambeau clarified that he views the North Carolina course as primarily a ball striker’s course and that he enjoys the challenge it presents.

“I may have played Pinehurst in 2012, but I did so with the SMU golf team right before the U.S. Open in 2013.” It was with the college team, anyway. It was a lot of fun being outside. We had to go out and play since I know the golf course’s owner, Bob Dedman, quite well and he’s a big supporter of SMU. I thought the golf test it offered was fantastic. Playing there was a lot of fun.

“I had good memories of Pinehurst and Payne Stewart’s accomplishments, and I played well the week we were there with the college team. It’s a unique golf course, and I actually played it once, maybe three or four holes, maybe a little more. That was probably four or five months ago in the beginning of January. I had a great time visiting with the USGA and having a brief conversation with them. It was a fantastic golf test. I am aware thatthe circumstances that We saw the golf course, including its appearance, feel, and features like the rolling greens and slopes. We will be given a presentation next week.

“I enjoy that kind of golf, and it was enjoyable. Undoubtedly, the golf course is an iron play.”

Then, a different reporter questioned DeChambeau in greater detail about the origins of his new-found’stache.

DeChambeau said:

“Yes, I was the one who started it. I was at fault for that. I definitely blew that one.

“I’m not sure, I heard someone say you could look good with a mustache, so I thought I’d give it a shot. I took a big shave and got rid of all the scruff. An old school-style YouTube video is about to be released. I believe I posted about it about a week ago, and I thought the outfit went well with it. I’m not sure if you guys saw it, but it’s the classic look, complete with hickory clubs, a beret, long socks and shoes, and everything.

It certainly went with the ensemble. That being said, we’ll see how long this lasts. I will most likely just shave it if I play poorly on the first day.”

Charles Howell III’s injury on the eve of LIV Golf Houston forced DeChambeau to make a change to his Crushers GC lineup this week.

Three-time DP World Tour winner and current Order of Merit leader on the Asian Tour John Catlin has taken Howell III’s spot.
