The first trip to Australia for LIV Golf in Adelaide in 2023 was arguably its most successful event; resident Australian Greg Norman has announced the tournament will return in 2024.
South Australia’s premier, Peter Malinauskas, declared the LIV Golf Adelaide event to be the “best anywhere in the world” following Greg Norman’s announcement that the Saudi-backed league would make a return to the country in 2024.
The Grange in Adelaide hosted LIV’s inaugural tournament in Norman’s native nation in April, and it ended up being one of the busiest weeks on the breakaway circuit to that point. The LIV CEO announced in a positive statement on Friday that the league will return to South Australia as a result of the success.
According to Norman, “the first-ever LIV Golf Adelaide demonstrated to the world how global audiences are embracing LIV Golf, which is revitalizing the sport.”
It was the most anticipated event of our league’s inaugural season and a magnificent display of competition, excitement, and fanfare that golf fans truly deserved. We anticipate that The Grange Golf Club will raise the bar even further in 2024 and set yet another high standard for the league—South Australia is known for its theatrical productions.
The tournament is coming back, and Premier Malinauskas has thrown open arms to its return. It will take place on April 26, 27, and 28 in 2024. The leader of South Australia praised the event’s impact and gave it the highest ranking in the golf world.
“People know exactly what to expect when they come to LIV Golf Adelaide, the best golf tournament anywhere in the world. Last year, they weren’t too sure what to expect,” Malinauskas said in a speech. “LIV is the realization of Greg’s vision for the game of golf.
“We are extremely, extremely excited to see Adelaide and South Australia, which took the world by storm last year, replicated again in 2024.” Following the Adelaide event’s World Golf Awards victory as the World’s Best Golf Event of the Year 2023, Malinauskas’ remarks received support last month.
The event’s showpiece proved to be the ‘Watering Hole’ at the par-three 12th, which was aptly named thanks to party atmosphere, and horseshoe grandstand that ran from tee to green. The highlight of the week came courtesy of Brooks Koepka’s younger brother Chase, who landed an incredible hole-in-one in round three.
The now relegated LIV star aced the par-three 12th to spark wild scenes, as drinks were thrown into the air and onto the playing surface, replicating the famous 16th stadium hole at the Waste Management Phoenix Open on the PGA Tour.
Following the success Norman has plans to make the Watering Hole bigger and better in 2024.”I think the success of the Watering Hole could be expanded because of the popularity of it,” he told Australian Golf Digest. “I think you can get more spectators around there…
“LIV Adelaide served as the model event for the remaining thirteen events we held worldwide. Because of this, LIV’s authentic culture—which encompasses energy, lifestyle, and the incorporation of entertainment fandom—was established. Adelaide was the one who stepped up to take advantage of all that. I believe it could be very possible to think like that and work together with the Premier’s Office and his staff.
