F1 star Sergio Perez bizarrely appears in music video and isn’t driving for Red Bull

Rumours are swirling that Red Bull are looking to replace Sergio Perez, even though the Mexican remains on course to complete a one-two finish with team Max Verstappen

Under-fire Red Bull star Sergio Perez has appeared in a music video playing a taxi driver.

Starring in ‘Por La Familia’ by Carin Leon and BorderKid, celebrated Mexican musician Leon is driven from an airport to a surrealist landscape by Perez, who eventually gets kitted out in Red Bull gear while still in his taxi. In real life, the F1 driver is reportedly facing an uncertain future, having endured a difficult past few weeks on the track as the season draws to a close.

The 33-year-old, nicknamed Checo, will start the United States Grand Prix in ninth place after another poor qualifying run in Austin, but Red Bull principal Christian Horner recently told Mirror Sport in an exclusive interview that his team’s sole focus is on helping Perez end the campaign well, not replacing him. In the meantime, he’s been raising his profile in the world of music.

Leon explains:
“I’m a huge fan of Checo. I feel like (for) all Mexicans right now, he’s our biggest sports star. We’re proud about him for what he did for Mexican culture. We ” We are happy to combine the worlds of music and Formula 1.”

He added:
“For the artist , having this connection to sports is like another dream come true. I’m very happy with what’s going on with Mexican music.”

As for Pérez, he said:
“Latin music is having a good time. People like it and it’s great that our Latin music is popular all over the world. It’s great to have that in the F1 community and in the sport.”

As for his day job, the only Mexican driver on the track aims to consolidate second place overall to gives Red Bull a double advantage “It’s something we’ve never done before and it will be something that compliments what we think is our most successful car ever” , boss Horner explained.

“We are trying our best to support Checo and help him get back to the form we know he is capable of and that he demonstrated earlier in the year. We are confident that he can return to the form he showed in great races, such as in Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia.

“Not long ago at Monza he had a great race and finished second… Everyone has short memories in this business and in many ways you’re just good by his last race.”
On Friday, Perez brushed off suggestions that he was about to be replaced and said:

“I’m laughing about it. There’s nothing I can do [to stop the rumours]. I’m completely focused.” focused on my work, but that really sums up my season: a guy said something about me and suddenly it became true.”
