Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods’ innovative golf tournament, ‘TGL’, has expanded its roster, adding five more stars to their star-studded roster ahead of its launch in January.

McIlroy and Woods’ creation of TGL follows a threat to the PGA Tour from their rival, LIV Golf. The tournament – which will last 15 weeks – will take place at a custom-built stadium, with players competing on a virtual golf course, complete with an internal short course.
The innovative tournament series will kick off in the new year and ahead of its launch, many PGA Tour stars have signed up to compete with six teams.

On Tuesday, TGL announced that it had finalized its roster for the inaugural season, with Patrick Cantlay, Wyndham Clark, Lucas Glover, Kevin Kisner and Min Woo Lee all added. American star Cantlay’s commitment comes just weeks after he found himself at the center of controversy at the Ryder Cup.

According to Sky Sports, Cantlay caused division in the US team’s dressing room over the players not being paid before the defeat to the European team. With the drama now behind him, the former FedEx Cup champion has now set his sights on a new team event in the TGL.

“The more I talked to other players participating in TGL, the more I wanted to be a part of the tournament,” Cantlay said. “This is a great opportunity to showcase golf as new technology at a crucial time. TGL will give us a chance to not only show our skills as players but also show a different side of us than what fans usually see of us on the field. »

The 31-year-old will be joined by one of his Ryder Cup teammates, Clark. The American had a breakthrough year on the PGA Tour, winning the US Open at Los Angeles Country Club this summer. His impressive campaign was rewarded with a place in Zach Johnson’s USA team and now he will rub shoulders with the big names again, this time in front of a simulator.

Ahead of his next step, the U.S. Open champion said: “This year has been a bit of a dream for me to have my first PGA Tour win, my first major championship victory and to represent the U.S. in the Ryder Cup. Golf is a humbling game, so it was extremely rewarding to see my hard work translate to success on the course this year. I’m beyond excited to continue the dream by committing and joining this exceptional group of players on TGL.”

Cantlay, Clark, Glover, Lee and Kisner will team up with the 19 players already confirmed. A well as Woods and McIlroy, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Keegan Bradley, Matt Fitzpatrick, Shane Lowry, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, Xander Schauffele, Max Homa, Cam Young, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Rickie Fowler, Sahith Theegala, Tom Kim and Billy Horschel will all compete in the stadium-based league.
