SMITH FUMING AS GOOCH WINS LIV GOLF RACE DESPITE PLAYOFF LOSS TO BROOKS KOEPKA

Cam Smith was furious when Talor Gooch won the LIV Golf race despite losing to Brooks Koepka in Jeddah

Cameron Smith dropped a few F-bombs, then smashed his golf bag with his club before losing to Talor Gooch in the season-long race for the LIV Golf Individual Championship.

Smith led into the final regular event of LIV Golf’s 2023 season, but Gooch’s late surge saw the American push the Australian into the post at LIV Golf Jeddah.

Gooch shot a shooting final-round 62 to force a playoff with 36-hole leader Brooks Koepka at 14 under.

But Koepka beat Gooch to defend his title with a birdie on the second extra hole.

The five-time Major champion admitted to being emotional after defending his third LIV Golf title in Jeddah.

Koepka defends LIV Golf Jeddah

Koepka’s win in Saudi Arabia saw him finish the season in third place in the season-long race.

This gave him an additional $4 million, much to his surprise!

Gooch was crowned LIV Golf League 2023 individual champion

Although he lost to Koepka, the winner of the season was Gooch, who won three times in 2023.

By becoming the individual champion of the LIV Golf League 2023, Gooch earned a whopping $18 million in prize money.

Gooch has won more than $15 million in personal winnings across 13 events during LIV Golf’s 2023 season.

Smith lost his personal race and his composure in the process

Smith finished with a 66 to end the week at 6-under par, but that was far behind the T24. The Australian made six bogeys in his final round, but made a disastrous six double bogeys on one hole.

When he realized he was no longer leading the season-long LIV golf race, Smith began to lose his temper.

This is not something we often see from former Open champions.

Smith may be considered one of the best putters in the world, but he made every amateur feel a lot better about their own performance on the green on the 15th.

This was the second time in 24 hours that Smith lost his temper. Sergio Garcia’s Fireballs GC won the LIV Golf Jeddah team event.
