The Las Vegas Grand Prix has arrived, and if Max Verstappen wins, he could leave Lando Norris in his wake and win the championship for the fourth time in a row.
George Russell started the race in pole position, and the Dutchman started ahead of his McLaren rival with just two races left after the street circuit in Nevada.
Despite a strong start from Ferrari that put Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc in his wake, the British driver maintained his position at the top of the grid for the first few laps in Sin City.
As he gets ready to bid Mercedes farewell before joining Ferrari for the upcoming season, Lewis Hamilton was disappointed with his P10 start following a few mistakes in qualifying.
The Constructor’s Championship is also heating up between McLaren and Ferrari, and the seven-time world champion would love to end with a win, but time is running out.
In his tirade against Formula One commentators, Max Verstappen stated that “experts should keep their mouths shut” in reference to Franco Colapinto’s crash.
After going through medical testing and hitting the barriers during qualifying, the Williams star was not sure if he would start today’s race.
Verstappen has also defended Colapinto after some criticism for the expensive collision, which involved Williams spending money to prepare the car for the race.
Verstappen responded, “But the experts… should keep their mouths shut,” when asked if Colapinto was finding the transition to Formula One challenging.
“It’s really not simple. It’s not easy to do anything at the limit. It’s also difficult, even if I were to drive a road car on the limit on this circuit.
“Let them do it if not. Being in front of the camera frequently indicates that they are no longer able to perform the task on their own.
Chaos with plastic bags
Plastic bags have been observed floating on the grid by some unannounced visitors to the Sin City circuit, only to get entangled in and stuck in Formula One vehicles.
Before George Russell experienced the same issue, Charles Leclerc was seen with a bag affixed to his vehicle.
It’s unclear how much of an effect this has on a car’s speed, but we can expect a lot of overtakes following Max Verstappen, Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc, and George Russell’s numerous early pit stops.
