Lewis Hamilton cryptically hints at quitting F1 season early after Brazilian GP disaster

Lewis Hamilton of Mercedes has hinted that he might end the Formula One season early following a disastrous weekend at the Brazilian Grand Prix.

Lewis Hamilton may have already participated in the team’s final race, according to new audio that has surfaced from him. A terrible weekend at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace caused Hamilton’s mood to deteriorate.

F1 fans watching the official broadcast on Sunday did not initially hear the audio clip because it was only made public after the race. The British legend hinted that he might have raced in Mercedes overalls for the last time during his brief chat with his engineers on the team radio.

After placing eleventh in the F1 Sprint and qualifying sixteenth for the race, the seven-time world champion reached breaking point. After applying grid drops for Max Verstappen and Carlos Sainz, he started two positions higher.

However, Hamilton’s complaints of the W15’s “bouncing” and comparison of their floor to a “wooden plank” ruined any hopes he had of moving up to the front of the field in the race.

While battling alongside Franco Colapinto and Oliver Bearman, he lost crucial positions and seconds on two occasions when he ran off the track.

After the race, the 39-year-old expressed his frustration by saying he could “go for a holiday” after battling with Sergio Perez to finish in 10th place, one point behind Sao Paulo.

“Dude, that weekend was a complete bust. On the team radio, Hamilton declared, “That is the worst the car has ever been.”

But I appreciate that you’re still trying. The men at the pitstop did a fantastic job. It’s unfortunate that it wasn’t very good, but I’m thankful for you if this is my last opportunity to perform.”

After an incredible run in which he won six of his seven Drivers’ Championship titles with the team, including four straight between 2017 and 2020, it would be shocking if Hamilton were not given a fitting send-off.

Although taken aback by his decision to depart for Ferrari in February, Hamilton has maintained a close personal relationship with Toto Wolff and has shown no animosity toward the renowned driver.

In recent weeks, there have been rumors that Mercedes may test Kimi Antonelli in the car during the season’s last three races before he joins the team in 2025.

With the Silver Arrows entering a new era without a world champion on their roster for the first time in twelve years, the 18-year-old will take Hamilton’s place as George Russell’s teammate.

To cap off his Mercedes career, Hamilton is anticipated to participate in the season’s final three races in Qatar, Las Vegas, and Abu Dhabi.
