Lewis Hamilton made a joke about needing a “holiday” after finishing last in a terrible Brazilian Grand Prix. With only one point to show for his efforts, the British player’s weekend was challenging from the beginning.
The Mercedes driver moved up to 15th place on the grid after Carlos Sainz was forced to start in pit lane. After climbing to P11 at the end of the first lap, he found it difficult to gain ground.
Hamilton spent the middle part of the race battling with Franco Colapinto and Oliver Bearman out of the points, while Max Verstappen, who started alongside him on the grid, went all the way to the lead with a spectacular drive.
Following an off-track incident, the British driver even fell as low as P15 at one point before rallying to P10 and winning the final point ahead of Sergio Perez, who had an equally difficult weekend.
Telling Sky Sports F1, “We were just slow,” he said. “The car was extremely difficult. I still want to express my sincere gratitude to the guys in the garage. They arrived very early this morning and performed admirably all weekend long.
“Everyone at the factory back there I’m sure the pain will be felt by them. At least one car was acting properly, and the team had a chance to win today as well. The vehicle resembles a piece of wood. There is no suspension, the tires bounce everywhere, and there is nowhere to turn on the power.
“It was by far the worst ride we’ve ever had, especially around corners. Simply put, very rigid. Hopefully, though, there won’t be any more rough patches. The last three, in my opinion, aren’t as rough. I would be more than happy to go on vacation.
