Max Verstappen accuses Lewis Hamilton after Hungarian GP collision amid F1 investigation

During the Hungarian Grand Prix, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen and Mercedes driver Lewis Hamilton collided as the Red Bull tried to pass the Mercedes.

Following their collision during the Hungarian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton dismissed Max Verstappen’s accusation.

Making contact on the track is nothing new for the former Formula 1 rivals, and it happened in Budapest as well. When Hamilton tried to move up the inside of turn one and it went horribly wrong, Verstappen was chasing him for third place.

Verstappen’s car shot into the air and made a hard contact with the tarmac as the Red Bull racer locked up. Not only did it cost him a spot on the podium, but Charles Leclerc capitalized on the incident to secure fourth place as well.

Verstappen stated, “I went for a move that was on, but in the middle of the braking zone, when I’m committed to the move, he just keeps moving right,” expressing his insistence that Hamilton had moved while under brakes. I would have hit him if I hadn’t turned while braking straight. He just keeps turning to the right, so I lock up.

Many statements were made regarding the events in Austria, such as “It was not correct, blah blah blah.” However, that was during the initial move, and after that you just brake straight; however, this is no longer the initial move, as he continues to turn right during the braking zone.

“When someone has made a commitment on the inside, you cannot do that. I locked up for that reason because he turned on me and we would have collided otherwise. Let’s see. We came together even though I don’t think I braked too late after going for a move that was fully on.”

Verstappen and Hamilton have been invited to the FIA offices to present their respective accounts of the collision, while the stewards are conducting an investigation into it. However, the British man stated, “For me, it was a racing incident,” giving the impression that he will not face consequences.

“In the end, he sent it considerably faster. I made a small defensive movement, but I made sure to leave enough room inside, so he locked up and was unable to turn. He thus approached from a different direction and struck my wheel. Had he been in control, he would have passed.”

Oscar Piastri, the race winner, and Lando Norris, the other McLaren driver, were joined by Hamilton on the podium. The seven-time champion is upbeat about the future despite acknowledging that Verstappen and those two have speed beyond his reach in a straight fight. He continued, saying, “We struggled to finish in the top 10 at the beginning of the year.

It therefore feels really good for us to be making progress and being involved. Even though we’re not as fast as the Red Bulls or McLarens, we still need to keep getting better because we’re making progress. We definitely need to bring more, and hopefully soon we’ll be able to match the guys’ unceasing pace. George and I will be able to really stick it to them if we do.
