Lewis Hamilton, whose transfer to Ferrari is now very much on the horizon, has shared his candid opinions about Mercedes’s recent progress in recent weeks.
Lewis Hamilton has stated unequivocally that he does not regret his choice to end his Formula One career at Ferrari rather than stay with Mercedes.
Hamilton’s victory at the British Grand Prix perfectly captured Toto Wolff’s team’s unexpected improvement. The record for the most victories at a single F1 event was broken by him.
Mercedes had a fantastic weekend at the Red Bull Ring just one week earlier at the Austrian Grand Prix, where George Russell won and Hamilton came in fourth. The fact that the Brackley-based team currently has better cars than Ferrari is becoming more and more obvious.
Many supporters think that Hamilton may have had some concerns after reading this. The British driver did, however, express his satisfaction with Mercedes’ current situation and his continued excitement about competing for Ferrari.
Hamilton acknowledged on Spanish TV that “I think leaving when the chips are down would be the worst feeling for me.” “However, I’ve contributed to getting this car to where it is now by leaving when the chips are up or on the upswing. It’s an incredible feeling. I’m thrilled about it and looking forward to next year.”
Previously, Hamilton has refuted any rumors suggesting he’s reconsidering his loyalty to Mercedes. He was very clear after the Spanish Grand Prix that he was not going to change his mind.
“I’ve been with Mercedes since I was thirteen,” he declared. I’ll always be a supporter and admirer of them. Right now, my responsibility is to put in as much effort as I can with the team I have to try and progress the car in the proper direction. I am proud to have been a part of things that, hopefully, the team will be doing well in the upcoming season, whatever path and trajectory they choose.
“Next year, I’ll be starting with the other team, and they’re doing a fantastic job already. Although they have had a challenging few races, they did manage to win in Monaco last month.
“I have no idea why they are in this situation or what is wrong with their car. However, it doesn’t cause me to question my choice in the slightest.”
In spite of his significant deficit to Max Verstappen, Hamilton and teammate George Russell have demonstrated encouraging growth, pointing to a possible comeback later in the season. This Sunday’s Hungarian GP, which takes place at the storied Hungaroring circuit, will be the pair’s next opportunity to close the gap.
