The irate team radio of George Russell during the F1 Spanish GP qualifying
George Russell, a Mercedes driver, expressed dissatisfaction with Lewis Hamilton, his teammate, claiming that the veteran affected his opening lap during the Q3 session. The two British drivers finished P3 and P4 together in the Spanish GP qualifying session on Saturday, with Hamilton ahead of Russell.
Entering the final stage of qualifying, the 26-year-old appeared to be the faster of the two Mercedes drivers; however, the seven-time world champion’s time was only milliseconds faster than Russell’s.
But George Russell griped about Lewis Hamilton’s actions during the preparation lap on his team radio, saying it was impeding his progress after they set their first timed laps. Russell stated:
“What the f*** was Lewis doing prepping that lap?”
Russell’s engineer responded promptly, stating that they would talk more about the matter after the meeting:
It’s alright. We will discuss it afterwards. Putting your mind to the task.
