A report in The Guardian ahead of the US Open states that Rory McIlroy has confirmed he and his wife Erica are not divorcing.
According to a report in The Guardian, Rory McIlroy has stated he is not going to file for divorce from his wife Erica Stoll. The couple reportedly “resolved” their differences ahead of this week’s US Open.
The 35-year-old McIlroy filed for divorce last month on the eve of the US PGA at Valhalla.
However, McIlroy has declared that his divorce from Erica, his wife of seven years, is no longer on the table and that he is happy to be back with her ahead of the very next major.
Poppy is Rory and Erica’s young daughter.
According to The Guardian, “court documents served in Florida on Tuesday show the case was dismissed at the parties’ request.”
It comes after news that Erica “missed the deadline” over the weekend.
Since word of McIlroy’s decision to file for divorce from Erica on Monday, May 13, had leaked onto social media, rumors had been circulating that he had been romantically linked to CBS reporter Amanda Balionis.
Not only did McIlroy refute those rumors in a Tuesday night response to The Guardian, he also made it clear he was no longer going through with a divorce.
The Northern Irishman said that their “best future was as a family together” and that they had now “resolved our differences.”
McIlroy told The Guardian:
Regrettably, there have been unfounded rumors lately regarding my personal life. Reacting to every rumor is pointless.
“In the last few weeks, Erica and I have come to the realization that having a family together is our best future. Thankfully, our disagreements have been settled, and we are eager to start over.”
Earlier today, McIlroy gave a press conference in front of the US Open.
After making a jest about Scottie Scheffler’s prison cell, he declared he would not be making any personal goals.
During the first two rounds of the US Open, the World No. 3 is out with the overwhelming favorites, World No. 1 Scheffler and World No. 2 Xander Schauffele.
