Jon Rahm may be entering the US Open too soon because of an injury that prevented him from competing in the most recent LIV Golf event held in Houston, Texas.
Due to injury, Jon Rahm was forced to withdraw from LIV Golf Houston, raising questions about whether he will be able to play in the US Open the following week.
Rahm hit his approach shot on the seventh hole on Friday, the day of the Houston Open, and nearly broke out. After only having his foot examined, he started to limp and was obviously in great pain before teeing off.
Rahm has a cut between his toes, which is really hurting when he takes shots, according to the LIV Golf broadcast. If the reports are accurate, though, Rahm has a better chance of being ready for the US Open with a cut than with a muscle injury.
Being one of the favorites to win the competition, Rahm won’t want to miss the third major of the 2024 season. Even if he manages to attend, his performance may be affected by his injury’s aftereffects.
Prior to winning the Masters in 2023, Rahm secured his first major championship in 2021 when he triumphed at the US Open. Rahm finished the competition in a tie for tenth place the previous year, but since joining LIV Golf and leaving the PGA Tour, he hasn’t played at his best in 2024.
The 29-year-old missed the cut at the PGA Championship and finished tied for 45th in the Masters earlier this year. Rahm hasn’t played as much since joining the Saudi-sponsored breakaway league, and his lack of playing time hasn’t paid off in terms of performance on the course thus far.
Though Rahm hadn’t played since the USPGA concluded on May 19, LIV Houston was supposed to be the ideal pre-US Open warm-up. Before deciding closer to the June 13 tournament start date, he must be evaluated this week.
