Mercedes drivers must report to stewards after an incident during qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix.
Lewis Hamilton was officially summoned by the FIA board of directors after qualifying for the Qatar Grand Prix.
The Mercedes driver was recalled for “exceeding the time limit between the Safety Car lines during qualifying”, which is the minimum lap time in Q1.
Liam Lawson, Oscar Piastri and Yuki Tsunoda were also investigated for violating race director Niels Wittich’s event notes, but only Hamilton was officially invited to attend the management panel.

However, a minimum lap time of 46,000 applies, with drivers not being penalized if they are found to be driving slower than the time when they are moving away from oncoming traffic. The full statement from the commissioners reads:
Alleged breach of Article 12.2.1 i) of the International Sports Code and failure to comply with the Event Notes of the Court Secretary (point 4.2, document 16) – Time limit between lines exceeded safe vehicle during competition.
Carlos Sainz is also under official investigation for “erratic driving” after struggling on the track with Max Verstappen in Q2 before Ferrari was eliminated.
