Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods welcome three Ryder Cup stars as the new golf tournament launches

Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods’ innovative ‘TGL’ golf tournament will launch next January and three members of Europe’s Ryder Cup winning team have been added to the line-up.

Three European Ryder Cup stars, Tommy Fleetwood, Shane Lowry and Tyrrell Hatton, have all taken part in Rory McIlroy and Tiger Woods’ innovative ‘TGL’ golf tournament.

TGL is scheduled to begin in January 2024 and will see six teams of PGA Tour players compete on a virtual course at a custom-built venue. Many big names are set to compete, including founders McIlroy and Woods.

And the latest to join the creative league are Fleetwood, Lowry and Hatton, fresh from their Ryder Cup victory in Rome. One of the PGA Tour’s hottest rising stars, Tom Kim, has also been added to the list. Three European players have shown exactly what they are capable of in team golf, after shining in Rome last week. On joining the TGL team, Irishman Lowry said:
“Everything I heard about TGL was really intriguing. Between the Ryder Cup and the World Cup, I always like to play with a teammate or a team.

“It’s great to see golf getting creative and trying new things. I imagine it will be a lot of fun.” And this was echoed by Fleetwood, who commented:
“I’ve been excited about TGL since it was announced. Many of my fondest golf memories are from team competitions.

Some of the PGA Tour’s biggest stars, Jon Rahm, Collin Morikawa, Justin Thomas, Matt Fitzpatrick, Justin Rose, Adam Scott, will cover 15 regular season matches, followed by semi-finals and a final.

As things stand, TGL have confirmed four of their six teams ahead of the off in three months. TGL Atlanta, TGL New York, TGL Boston and Los Angeles Golf Club have all been announced. It is not just golf’s biggest names that are involved too, with two of tennis most iconic names in Serena and Venus Williams in charge of the LA-based setup, alongside Serena’s husband Alexis Ohanian.
