“A little humor for the audience over there.” Cam Smith discusses his humorous moment from his practice round at The Masters on Tuesday.
After recovering from a case of food poisoning, the last thing Cameron Smith wanted was to fall in Rae’s Creek and scuttle but that’s exactly what happened during his practice round on Tuesday before The Masters.
Smith, 30, was compelled to withdraw following LIV Golf Miami’s opening round last week.
Smith’s preparation for the season’s first major was somewhat derailed after he passed the weekend in bed.
However, the winner of the 150th Open is in a much better mood this week and will undoubtedly tee off at The Masters alongside PGA Tour players Wyndham Clark and Viktor Hovland for the first two rounds at Augusta National.
Smith acknowledged that he was able to “get around the course and feel okay” on Tuesday and that he had “a bit more energy.”
On Tuesday afternoon, the Australian played with his countryman and previous Masters victor Adam Scott.
Cam Smith slips on Rae’s Creek
The only negative for Smith was that he found it difficult to maintain his balance when attempting to cross Rae’s Creek’s rocks on the par-5 13th hole.
When Smith’s metal spikes broke, the Australian fell into one of golf’s most well-known waterways.
Smith said, “Yeah, I had metals in my right shoe and I slipped. I just tried to get on a couple of rocks, not trying to jump.”
“A bit of comedy for the crowd there.”
Smith continued, “The only thing I was thinking as I was going down was not to get wet, so I managed to actually do all right. In my seven appearances at The Masters, I have four top-10 finishes.” My shoes were a little wet, and I had to throw out my glove, but that’s about it.”
