The 2024 Mexico Open on the PGA Tour will take place at Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course in Vallarta, Mexico, from Thursday, February 22, to Sunday, February 24. The event will take place at the Vidanta Vallarta Golf Course for its third edition.
There will be just four players ranked in the top 50 in the 131-player field at the 2024 Mexico Open. Top players are not required to participate in this week’s event because it is not the signature event.
The top five players who aren’t in the Mexico Open 2024 field are shown below.
Top 5 golfers not playing the 2024 Mexico Open
1) Scottie Scheffler
Scottie Scheffler is not competing at the Mexico Open this week, which is disappointing for him after he played nonstop for three weeks. In his entire career, he has never participated in this competition, and this year won’t be any different.
2) Rory McIlroy
Rory McIlroy is also not competing at the 2024 Mexico Open in Vidanta. So far, he has competed only in two PGA Tour events in 2024. Besides, he started the season with two DP World Tour events.
3) Jon Rahm
Jon Rahm had won the Mexico Open the year before and finished second in the competition this year. But this time, he won’t be there because he’s going to LIV Golf following the 2022–2023 season. He has participated in two Saudi-sponsored events, and at Mayakoba, his team, Legion XIII, took first place in the team competition.
4) Viktor Hovland
Additionally missing from the Vidanta Vallarta event is Viktor Hovland. This season, he has participated in just three events and is yet to place in the top ten. He had an incredible 2022–23 season, winning three PGA Tour championships and the FedEx Cup.
5) Xander Schauffele
Xander Schauffele, who has participated in five events thus far, will not be competing in the 2024 Mexico Open. With 39 straight PGA Tour appearances under his belt, he currently has the longest active streak on the circuit. He has already made four top-10 finishes in five starts this year.
