Charles Leclerc’s status at Ferrari has been threatened by the arrival of seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton from Mercedes, but the team are confident it will work
Although both Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc aspire to be the best driver in the world, Ferrari is confident that the two can get along.
The Formula 1 world was taken aback last week when news broke that Hamilton had switched from Mercedes to Ferrari, and things are starting to calm down. Next season, the 39-year-old British driver will be joined by Leclerc at Ferrari, having succeeded Carlos Sainz.
Leclerc joined Ferrari’s driver academy and began racing for the company in 2019. The 26-year-old Monegasque has been putting in a lot of work and waiting his turn, so Hamilton’s unexpected arrival might cause a stir.
Leclerc and his group “were shocked and disappointed by Ferrari’s decision” to bring in Hamilton, according to Corriere dello Sport. It is said that they “had no idea what was about to happen” and were taken by surprise by the decision.
However, Piero Ferrari, the vice chairman of the team and the son of Enzo Ferrari, the company’s founder, is confident that everything will work out. The 78-year-old considers Hamilton to be a “perfect match” for Ferrari and is “personally very happy” about his arrival.
Charles told Italian journalist Leo Turrini, via Planet F1, “I think Charles is the champion of the future. Ferrari believes in him and has proven it.” “Hamilton is who he is.” I fail to see why they ought to fight.
Leclerc has previously expressed admiration for Hamilton during the rumors that he was joining Ferrari last year. He said, “I think anybody on the grid would love to have Lewis as a team-mate, as everybody would learn a lot from him. Lewis is such an incredible driver and has achieved so much in the sport.” “But once more, I’m content with my situation and have a wonderful relationship with Carlos Sainz.”
Hamilton is excited about the possibility of joining a new group. “I’m eager to see what I can contribute to this new opportunity and what we can accomplish together,” he declared.
But I’m not thinking about 2025 at this time. My thoughts are on the forthcoming season and getting Mercedes back on track. I want to help Mercedes win again, and I am more motivated, fitter, and more focused than ever.
“I’m determined to finish my collaboration with the team on a positive note and I’m fully committed to the task at hand. I’m grateful to everyone who has supported me along the way; you have all encouraged me to follow my dreams, and I hope I can continue to make you proud. I’m sending you my love and good vibes as usual.”
