Lewis Hamilton replacement summoned to stewards as three drivers investigated in Abu Dhabi

Frederik Vesti found himself in the stewards’ bad books after FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

Mercedes junior Frederik Vesti has been summoned to the stewards for ‘driving unnecessarily slowly’ at one point during FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The 21-year-old was replacing Lewis Hamilton for the first practice session of the weekend.

Compared to some of his fellow rookies, the Danish driver’s experience was comparatively drama-free; he finished in 12th place, with teammate George Russell being the fastest in the field.

But when the session ended, Vesti did find himself in hot water. Due to his “allegedly unnecessarily slow driving,” he was summoned before the stewards.

Not only Hamilton’s replacement but other drivers also encountered issues with the stewards. Jack Doohan, a rookie at Alpine, was also under investigation after he almost collided with Logan Sargeant, a Williams driver.

Sargeant was trundling along the racing line as Doohan was speeding around the penultimate corner. The Williams driver tried to swerve to the inside as the Alpine car flashed into his mirrors, hoping to avoid a collision.

Fortunately, Doohan was able to maneuver his Alpine through the opening as the drivers approached the same section of the track; however, he has since been called in to the stewards for “allegedly driving erratically” in relation to that incident.

After the first practice, Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll was the last driver called to the stewards’ room. Teammate Felipe Drugovich, who placed P2, outperformed the Canadian, who concluded the session in P5.
