Charles Leclerc will start Sunday’s Las Vegas Grand Prix on pole after Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez provided a shock in being eliminated from Q2.
During each of the three qualifying sessions, teammate Carlos Sainz finished second behind leader Charles Leclerc. One notable penalty Sainz has before Sunday’s race is a 10-place grid penalty.
Max Verstappen, who has been vocal about how much he dislikes the track, could only manage third place, and McLaren stars Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris were eliminated in the first round.
Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant qualified in sixth and seventh place, respectively, and Williams had a great Saturday.
In the second qualifying round, Hamilton, Perez, Nico Hulkenberg, Lance Stroll, and Daniel Ricciardo withdrew. From Q1, Norris and Piastri were in the same elimination zone as Esteban Ocon, Zhou Guanyu, and Yuki Tsunoda.
A summary of those crucial qualifying positions is provided below.
