Russell under INVESTIGATION over new rules at Brazilian Grand Prix

Following qualifying, George Russell, a Mercedes driver, will have his pit lane infraction from the Brazilian Grand Prix investigated.

After winning in Interlagos a year ago, the British driver is said to have blocked Pierre Gasly’s path when he emerged from the pits, nearly starting a nasty altercation.

In an attempt to prevent a recurrence of the Mexican GP qualifying session, the rules were altered prior to this weekend, and drivers are now instructed to stay to the left when emerging from the pits in order to permit overtaking on the right side.

Russell will be investigated for allegedly ignoring those rules, opting to dawdle in the middle of the pit lane, as Gasly attempted to go round him.

Brazilian GP rule changes

Formula 1 decided to change the rules ahead of this weekend, where the pit exit is very long, following a fiasco in Mexico that resulted in numerous incidents at the end of the pit lane due to drivers trying to find a gap in the traffic both in practice and qualifying.

After that specific session in Mexico, Max Verstappen, Russell, Zhou Guanyu, and Lando Norris were all looked into for various infractions; however, the stewards were forgiving of all four drivers.

With his second career race win coming at the site of his first, Russell will be crossing his fingers that it will be the same later this evening.
