After placing second in Mexico last week, Lewis Hamilton has expressed his excitement for the Brazilian Grand Prix, but Mercedes CEO Toto Wolff has issued a warning regarding the vehicle.
Lewis Hamilton and George Russell are expected to “put on a good show” at this weekend’s Brazilian Grand Prix, but Mercedes chief Toto Wolff has acknowledged that their vehicle is still “tricky to master.”
Following his second-place finish in the Mexican Grand Prix, Hamilton expressed his excitement about “hoping to continue with the strong pace of the car” when he arrived in Brazil. “It’s a great result considering we started from P6 and amazing day for the team,” stated the seven-time world champion.
“We worked really hard, and I’m pleased with the entire team’s effort. It’s wonderful to finally be getting better because the past few weeks have been challenging for us. Today the car felt lot better, and the speed was high. We did a good job of controlling the tyres and maintaining the car’s balance today.
We worked really hard over the weekend to perfect the setup, and today’s outcome demonstrates the effort that each member of the team put forth to make that happen. I’m eager to travel to Brazil and hopefully maintain the fast speed of the vehicle.”
But Wolff has cautioned Russell and Hamilton that they might run into some issues with the vehicle in Brazil. “We maintained our lead over Ferrari in the battle for second place in the Constructors’ championship after leaving Mexico,” he stated.
“That is an important battle for us and one we are focused on winning. Leaving Mexico with a second-place finish, given the challenging start to the weekend and our grid positions, was positive.
“The car showed very good race pace however we know we’ve got more work to do to extract the maximum from the W14 across all three days. Lewis put in a very strong performance to score a podium and George gave it absolutely everything, even when his tyres had gone off at the end.
“We’ve got one last race in this triple header and it’s in Brazil. We know we’ve taken a good step forward in recent races, but Mexico showed W14 can still prove tricky to master.
“Our goal is to reach Interlagos with a strong foundation, and then we’ll explore our options.” Of course, we have great memories from our two trips there in the past, particularly Lewis’ amazing victory in 2021 and George’s first victory in 2022.
“The fans are incredibly enthusiastic about Formula One, and we always receive such a warm reception from them. We’re hoping that everything will go smoothly with our package there so we can entertain everyone.”
