Turk Pettit participated in every one of the eight LIV Golf events during their inaugural season in 2022, but after a year, the American hopes to rejoin the PGA Tour through Q-School.
One year after being dropped by the breakaway circuit, former LIV Golf star Turk Pettit has begun his journey back to the PGA Tour via Qualifying School.
In their inaugural campaign in 2022, Pettit participated in all eight LIV events and brought home £858,000 for Niblicks GC. For 2023, the team captained by Bubba Watson adopted a new name, the RangeGoats, and Harold Varner III, Thomas Pieters, and Talor Gooch took Pettit’s place.
The pro-American had to resign from the PGA Tour due to a protracted conflict between the two rival tours in order to play on the breakaway circuit.
Having lost his spot on the LIV setup this year, Pettit has played his golf on the Asian Tour – with his best performance coming at the St Andrews Bay Championship where he finished in a tie for eighth in Scotland. Ahead of 2024, the 24-year-old is hoping to play PGA Tour golf once more.
The American entered into one of 10 PGA Tour Q-School events taking place across the United States, and enjoyed plenty of success after finishing at 10-under-par in Texas to book a place in the next stage. If Pettit is successful in regaining his card he could well be followed by a number of his fellow LIV stars.
In June the PGA Tour announced they had reached a framework agreement with the Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia (PIF), that would see them work in unison with their LIV rivals. Part of the agreement stipulated that the previously banned players could reapply for their PGA Tour membership cards.
Currently, however, the two parties have been given until December 31 to approve the agreement; as a result, it has not yet been finalized. Uncertainties about the deal’s completion have surfaced in recent weeks, as the Tour is reportedly considering investing money elsewhere rather than through PIF.
The Tour stated in a leaked memo to players: “It is not surprising that several other interested investors have reached out to us in response to our negotiations for a Definitive Agreement with PIF and the DP World Tour. However, we are still committed to reaching that goal. The Tour’s solid standing and future growth prospects are further supported by all of this activity.
