Perez critical over missed Red Bull opportunity

The Red Bull driver is classified fourth but feels he is still more capable in Austin.

Sergio Perez feels Red Bull missed out on the United States Grand Prix by not being more aggressive in its strategy.

From ninth on the grid, Perez moved up to fifth at the start of the Circuit of the Americas, passing Carlos Sainz for fourth following the usual two-stop strategy.

However, the battle for fourth place on the road actually became a battle for the final podium spot, favoring Sainz after P2 runner-up Lewis Hamilton was disqualified because the undercarriage was too worn level.

It’s good news for Pérez in his bid for second place in the Drivers’ Championship, as it’s likely he or Hamilton will finish second behind race winner and world champion Max Verstappen, but he ruined a cautious approach.

Pérez’s wishes at Red Bull

“Of course I want to go a little further in the race,” Pérez told Viaplay before news of Hamilton’s disqualification broke.
“It was very difficult for us to stay in the flow [of the cars in front] and engage in combat.

“There were times when we could have counterattacked some people, but we didn’t. .

“This is something we need to consider carefully and there are things we can learn from.”

Fourth place is Perez’s best result since his second place at Monza five races ago, when he leads Hamilton in the battle for second place in the standings now 39 points clear. with the home Grand Prix instead of 19 if Hamilton’s second place has not been erased.
