Lewis Hamilton gives two-word verdict on George Russell concerns as Mercedes take action

Prior to the Canadian Grand Prix, Lewis Hamilton responded to inquiries regarding his rivalry with George Russell.

After having a disappointing race in Monaco, Lewis Hamilton has stated that he will ‘try’ to outqualify teammate George Russell at this weekend’s Canadian Grand Prix.

After being outqualified by teammate Russell for the seventh time in eight races, the seven-time world champion was furious at the Monaco Grand Prix two weeks ago and implied that favoritism was at work in the Mercedes camp.

He remarked, “I don’t know if it’s a turn-down or something, but my car’s performance seems to be lacking.” “I anticipate it right now. I always know that I’m going to lose a few tenths when I get to qualifying.

“I don’t anticipate being ahead of George in qualifying this year,” Hamilton continued, opening the remaining qualifying sessions of his final season as a Mercedes driver.

In response to Hamilton’s remarks, Toto Wolff angrily denied any favoritism between his two drivers, implying that all drivers are “a bit sceptical at times.”

An improved front wing that wasn’t on the No. 44 car was one of the main things that worked in Russell’s favor in Monte Carlo. This isn’t going to happen in Montreal, though, as Wolff has confirmed that both drivers will show up with identical equipment.

“We know it will show in due course if we can keep closing the gap to the fastest cars,” said Wolff. “That progress isn’t showing in terms of positions yet.” “The updated front wing and a few other development items for this event will be available to both drivers in Canada.”

Hamilton felt more upbeat in Canada with his new car for the race this coming weekend. In response to the question of whether Mercedes might be on the podium, he said, “I don’t think it’s far away.”

“This weekend, both of the cars will receive an upgrade, so I’m excited to see how that feels like it’s actually on track.” Hamilton then said, “I’ll try,” in response to the question of whether he can defeat Russell on Saturday.

Although there are currently 12 points separating the two Mercedes drivers in the Drivers’ Championship standings, Hamilton’s primary goal this season will be to improve upon his best finish of sixth.
