The renowned American golfer appears to be giving himself the best opportunity to play in this year’s Masters at Augusta after spending a significant amount of time out due to injury issues.
Tiger Woods, the renowned American, has been preparing for The Masters for months in an attempt to make an incredible comeback.
After sustaining an injury at the Major tournament in the previous year, the 48-year-old took a seven-month hiatus from the sport. After making a quick recovery over the winter, he was forced to withdraw from the Genesis Invitational in February, cutting short his full PGA Tour comeback.
He played in the Seminole Pro-Member, which included Tom Brady and Rory McIlroy, when he returned to the course earlier this month. In addition, he recently participated in a practice round at Augusta National, suggesting that he will try to win a sixth Green Jacket.
The 15-time major championship winner and five-time Masters champion has long-standing plans to play in this year’s Augusta tournament. And according to reports, part of his comeback efforts involved going to the gym at 4 a.m. and doing everything possible to prepare himself.
Back in November, former PGA Tour player Brandel Chamblee asserted that Woods’ opponents had messages from him expressing his genuine intention to return to his peak form this year. The Golf Channel analyst claimed that Woods had texted a number of celebrities early in the morning, at around 4 a.m., to announce his comeback and to summarize the amount of effort he is putting forth to climb back to the top.
He said the text from Woods said, “I’m in the gym. How are you improving yourself?”
Despite acknowledging that he was rusty following his 2023 layoff, Woods has already been spotted getting ready to compete at the Augusta course alongside players like Rory McIlroy, Brooks Koepka, Scottie Scheffler, and Jon Rahm.
Sports Illustrated revealed that Woods played with club chairman Fred Ridley and Justin Thomas after fans followed his flights to Augusta. Woods is hoping to play for just the second time this year.
Although it is unlikely that Woods will contend for a sixth Masters crown, he still has the chance to make history in this year’s competition by becoming the player to make the cut the most times by defeating legendary players Gary Player and Fred Couples.
Since winning his first Green Jacket in 1997, Woods has been included in the list for 23 consecutive years. Woods recently said that he thinks he can play frequently for the remainder of the year, despite only making one appearance on the tour this year.
“It makes sense to do this once a month. It allows me a week to tune up and a few weeks to recuperate. Perhaps I can settle into the beat. The bones are no longer rubbing together, so my ankle is no longer painful. But on the other hand, it’s not the same as that; just as my back is fused, other parts of my body have to bear the brunt of that.
