Dustin Johnson makes plea to LIV Golf doubters after blunt PGA Tour response

Dustin Johnson has invited LIV Golf doubters to get themselves to a tournament and see for themselves what it’s all about.

On the third and final day of LIV Golf’s second tournament of the year in Las Vegas, Johnson triumphed in front of a sizable crowd. Following a close final round, fans flocked to the eighth hole, dubbed the “party hole,” to take in the atmosphere on the 18th green. Johnson won by one shot.

Speaking following the competition, Johnson commended the “energy” that fans brought to Super Bowl weekend and urged more of them to attend LIV. “It was a great week, great turnout with the fans today,” Johnson remarked. There were a lot of fans present.

It seemed like there was a lot of energy. It was a great time. Of course, it was quite windy and a little chilly, but the weather was excellent. It was, in my opinion, a fantastic turnout and show of support. There was definitely energy in the air.

“You should come out and watch if you haven’t been to an event; I promise you won’t regret it. I believe that it’s just something that the audience members genuinely enjoy; everyone who attends seems to enjoy it. They all appear to be enjoying themselves. More is always better.

Golf fans are divided over the Saudi-funded LIV Golf competition, which has significant implications for the PGA Tour, which recently inked a lucrative deal with Strategic Sports Group (SSG) to secure additional funding. Before LIV Golf Las Vegas, Johnson responded bluntly to the news, telling the Daily Mail, “To be honest, I have no idea.” Well, of course I understand the general idea—a group is contributing financial resources to the tour—but that’s about it. Nothing on it has been read by me.”

Johnson claims that his victory at The Las Vegas Country Club is the result of his finding “a little more drive and determination” in response to his dissatisfaction with performances in 2023. This victory has continued his successful start to the year. Now that he has gained confidence, he is eager to maintain his momentum in the run-up to The Masters at Augusta in April.

He went on, “Yeah, I’m excited for the rest of the year because the game is feeling in really good form for this early in the year.” Clearly, there is still a lot of work to be done. Take Sunday and Monday off, if possible, and return to work on Tuesday.

“Obviously, I have a busy schedule ahead of me, including Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, my return, Doral, and the Masters. At the very least, I want to be in good shape for the foreseeable future. Have a ton of major tournaments.
