Toto Wolff might pursue Max Verstappen in an effort to fill the void left by Lewis Hamilton leaving his Mercedes team.
The British driver leaves the team after 12 seasons to join Ferrari, leaving George Russell as the only available spot at the Silver Arrows for 2025.
Wolff’s last forced search for a replacement for a world champion ended abruptly in 2016 when Nico Rosberg announced his retirement.
Could Verstappen decide to leave Red Bull since nobody in the paddock believes Ferrari’s move for Hamilton will succeed?
Wolff: The ball is in our court
When the media asked Wolff if a Verstappen move would be feasible, he answered in a way that left room for interpretation.
He declared, “We will always look for these conversations and try to have the best combination in our car.”
It’s evident how swiftly things can turn around. We also honor existing contracts at the same time.
“Being in the fastest car is always the goal of drivers. It is our responsibility to prove that we are capable of producing the fastest car over the long haul in addition to the short and medium terms. Opportunities will then result from this. Now it is our turn to play.
For Mercedes, 2024 will be crucial if they hope to entice the best players to join their squad.
They may be in the lead to sign drivers who will make headlines in the future if they demonstrate a positive development direction and a clear path into the new era of technical regulations.
