Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm’s 2023 European Ryder Cup partner, has officially joined his LIV Golf League team, “Legion XIII.”
Tyrrell Hatton, Jon Rahm’s 2023 European Ryder Cup teammate, will play for LIV Golf, the player has confirmed.
Days before the Saudi-backed league begins play in Mayakoba, Mexico, on January 30, Rahm, 29, made the official announcement.
Hatton, an Englishman ranked 16th in the world, was reportedly convinced to join the reigning Masters champion’s LIV team with a last-minute call.
The Englishman is rumored to have agreed to a contract with the breakaway tour worth an estimated £50 million. He has won multiple events on the DP World Tour and the Arnold Palmer Invitational on the PGA Tour.
Wyndham Clark, the 2023 U.S. Open champion, was another player Rahm attempted to entice to LIV, but the deal fell through. He went after Tony Finau as well.
Rahm is believed to have struck a £450 million deal to join LIV in December of last year, a move that sent shockwaves through the men’s professional golf world and raised red flags in the halls of power.
The Public Investment Fund of Saudi Arabia, the financiers of LIV Golf, and the PGA Tour are still in talks. According to the most recent update, the North American circuit is ready for a $3 billion financial infusion from Strategic Sports Group.
It remains to be seen how that influences the Tour’s discussions with the PIF.
Additionally, Rahm has verified that Caleb Surratt, a gifted young American, has joined his LIV team.
Kieran Vincent, a recent graduate of LIV Golf Promotions, has also joined, as anticipated.
Vincent is the younger brother of Scott Vincent, who competes with Kevin Na’s IronHeads in LIV competitions.
Rahm is scheduled to speak at a press conference on January 31.
