Phil Mickelson’s LIV Golf team have unveiled a refresh to their branding after the HyFlyers were sued for copyright infringement.
After an apparel company sued the HyFlyers, claiming copyright infringement, Phil Mickelson’s LIV Golf team changed their logo.
According to a June report, Cool Brands Supply, the Argentine business that owns Fallen’s intellectual property, claimed that the logo is “nearly identical” to the one they’ve had for 20 years, putting Mickelson in legal hot water.
The federal lawsuit was brought before the New Jersey U.S. District Court.
Fallen’s lawyers allegedly caused confusion for their customers by requesting that the HyFlyers cease using the logo.
A pair of reflected Fs in a black and white colorway are a feature shared by both Fallen and the HyFlyers.
The fact that Mickelson wore the logo during the 2023 Masters, which was televised for “millions of consumers worldwide,” infuriated the company.
Concerns about LIV Golf’s connections to Saudi Arabia were also raised by the company’s attorneys. The league is funded by the enormous Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom.
An excerpt from the document read, “Plaintiff has already fielded a plethora of customer comments and complaints about an alleged affiliation with Defendants, some of which are critical of Plaintiff in light of Defendants’ reputation as an attempt to deflect attention from their funding of the monarchy’s violations of human rights and to repair Saudi Arabia’s terrible reputation around the world.”
Shortly after it was confirmed that Andy Ogletree would be the team’s newest addition, the HyFlyers made their 2024 “refresh” official via a video that was uploaded on X.
Former PGA Tour players Cameron Tringale and Brendan Steele are also on Mickelson’s squad.
