Viktor Hovland gets brutally honest about PGA Tour business

Even though Viktor Hovland put an end to the rumors about LIV Golf, he still had some harsh words to say about the PGA Tour.

Hovland recently stated on the Fore podcast, “I don’t think I would have become a better golfer if I had gone to LIV.” (English translation provided by Sports Illustrated). And with that, the conversation comes to an end in a sense.

However, I can’t hold it against those who choose to go there and make that choice. The last step is to try to come to an agreement. We’ll see.

Hovland could see why Jon Rahm finally decided to quit the tour and join the league supported by Saudi Arabia. He made the choice for about $300 million of reasons.

“To criticize the players for leaving would be a bit silly,” he remarked. After all, the media only presents one side of the story, even though there are numerous concurrent events in this case. I completely comprehend his departure. That is a huge sum of money. And at least in cases where the PGA Tour’s management has performed so poorly.

To be clear, I’m grateful for everything and have no complaints about the position I’m in. However, the management hasn’t performed well. They essentially regard the players as employees rather than fellow members. We are the PGA Tour, after all. There is nothing if the players are absent.

“When you see what goes on behind closed doors, you can see how the management really makes decisions that are not best for the players, but rather for themselves and what they believe to be best. These are businessmen who say, ‘No, this and that should look like this.'” He said, “There’s a lot of conceit behind it all.

Hovland expressed his doubt that he would walk away from the tour.

Rahm’s departure was also not Rory McIlroy’s fault.

McIlory stated earlier this month that “he seems like he wants to live his life the right way.” His aspirations are to be a good husband and father. Someone making a choice they believe is best for them cannot be condemned.
