Tiger Woods gave his verdict on the massive golf rules news after carding a 71 in the third round of the Hero World Challenge on his PGA Tour return.
Tiger Woods gave his approval for bifurcation in golf after carding a third round of 71 at the Hero World Challenge on his PGA Tour return.
Woods, 47, started poorly in the Bahamas with consecutive bogeys but picked up strokes at 3, 6, 8 and 9 to move into red numbers for the week.
Once again it was a similar story on the back nine for the 15-time major champion as fatigue began to play a part.
Woods toiled in the Albany heat and played his back nine in 1-over to eventually sign for a 1-under 71.
Despite being considerably off the lead he told a pool of reporters he was pleasantly surprised with his physical condition.
But the topic at hand was what he makes of the decision to roll back the golf ball.
Per a report by Golf Digest, the USGA and R&A are expected to announce they will be changing the rules.
The decision would affect both professionals and amateurs.
“This has been I guess the talk ever since I’ve been out on Tour,” Woods told the media on Saturday.
And then to finally witness it reach this juncture where, in my opinion, the two global regulatory bodies in charge of setting laws will cooperate to determine the extent to which we simply run out of property.
“Therefore, I believe that realizing that, although we’ve been pounding the ball to slow down, it has been speeding up my entire career and here we are.”
“As I told you guys, I’ve always been in favor of bifurcation,” he continued. It’s what I’ve always said. similar to metal and wood bats.”
Here’s Tiger Woods discussing why he decided to roll the golf ball back.
