Rory McIlroy weighs in as Jon Rahm is rumored to be making a surprise move to LIV Golf once more.
Jon Rahm will not be moving to LIV Golf, according to Rory McIlroy, who expressed his “pretty confident” that the Spaniard will still be playing on the PGA Tour in 2024.
Following Rahm’s decision last week to remove his name from the newly formed tech-enhanced golf league, TGL, which is being managed by both McIlroy and Tiger Woods, the Northern Irishman was questioned further about the matter.
Rahm’s withdrawal from the TGL, which begins on January 9, has sparked wild rumors that he will be joining LIV Golf and quitting the PGA Tour.
Not only is the TGL the idea of Woods and McIlroy, but the PGA Tour is also supporting it.
There are 24 players in the new team-based TGL league, distributed among six groups of four.
They will suffer greatly in the new league if they play slowly.
Rahm is one of the prominent PGA Tour absences from the TGL, along with Scottie Scheffler and Viktor Hovland.
However, McIlroy acknowledges that he would be “very, very surprised” if Rahm accepted a sizable check to play in the Saudi Arabian-funded league.
Rahm reportedly declined a $300 million offer to join LIV Golf during the previous season, despite having won two major championships.
Rahm won’t be w by another rich offer in 2024, according to McIlroy.
According to CBS Sports’ Rick Gehman, McIlroy said on November 6:
“I spoke to Jon a couple of days ago and would be very, very surpised if that were to happen [move to LIV Golf]. I am pretty confident Jon is a PGA Tour player.”
