The list of the top 10 golfers with the highest earnings in 2023 is intriguing given the ongoing rivalry between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf.
The top 10 highest-paid golfers have been announced, with Talor Gooch of LIV Golf astoundingly outearning the top players on the PGA Tour.
Ever since the controversial arrival of the Saudi-backed breakaway tour, millions of people have taken an extraordinary interest in golf. The PGA Tour was forced by the lucrative LIV Golf to dramatically boost their own prize pools, guaranteeing that players have never made so much money.
It’s interesting to read the list of the top 10 earners from the two rival tours, as provided by CBS. Prize money from majors, PGA Tour or LIV golf events, and year-end bonuses make up the totals.
Even with LIV Golf paying its players enormous sums, the elite players on the PGA Tour continue to earn handsome salaries. In actuality, there are six PGA Tour players on the top 10 list compared to just four LIV Golf rebels.
Money banked throughout the season on the DP World Tour and Asian Tour is also not taken into account, nor are earnings from specific contracts, sponsors, or PIP (Player Impact Program) bonuses included. Gooch is now at the top of the list despite not being able to major in 2023.
Gooch earned more than $36 million (£29 million) in prize money by herself as the star player for the Range Goats GC team in LIV Golf. In the 2023 LIV Golf season, the American won three of the 14 events and went on to win the league’s individual championship and a $18 million (£14.5 million) bonus.
In the end, his big record was underwhelming. Gooch only managed to make the cut at the Masters in April, which caused him to drop to 231st in the world rankings because the OWGR does not recognize his success in LIV Golf.
In order to compete in the prestigious tournaments in 2024, Gooch will need to enter Open and US Open qualifying unless the framework peace deal between PIF and the PGA Tour changes his circumstances. The 31-year-old probably doesn’t mind because he was paid well for his work.
Meanwhile, Viktor Hovland claimed an $18 million (£14.5m) bonus from his FedEx Cup triumph en route to breaking the PGA Tour record for the highest-earning season. Two 2023 major winners, Brooks Koepka and Jon Rahm, also both earned more than $20 million each for their successful seasons.
List of the 10 highest earners in golf in 2023:
