‘It broke my heart’: Major champion sparks speculation about ‘bankrupt’ US Ryder Cup team

One of the biggest questions in the world of golf – and the one that we will never have the answer – it remains possible that what really happened in that room of the US Ryder Cup team with Marco Simone this fall.

We know that the Europeans dominated the Americans, winning 16.5-11.5 to extend their unbeaten home streak to seven games. But one reported – and subsequent reports and comments – that there was a section of the US team that was distracted from the competition.
It all started with Sky Sports reporting that Patrick Cantlay did not wear a team cap to protest unpaid players ‘disrupting’ the team’s gym. Cantlay denied it. The players, too, scoffed at the story.

Meanwhile, other reports have emerged that there may at least be some truth to this. Who should believe? Good question.
Now we have new comments from Lucas Glover, the prospective Ryder Cup captain who has been dropped from the team. Speaking Friday on SiriusXM’s PGA Tour Radio show, Glover said he was told a team room was “broken” — and his source, he clarified, was on site.

“The next week, my heart broke when I found out how divided the room was and the money problems and different things,” Glover told SiriusXM.

“The Ryder Cup is not like that at all. And I’m not just going by what I’ve read and heard – I’ve talked to people who were in the war, and it breaks my heart to hear that because that’s not what I’m talking about. ‘which is about . That’s not what it represents and that’s not why I want to play for this team.

Players like Cameron Young and Keegan Bradley may be snubbed at the Ryder Cup more than Glover, but the former US Open champion could be the hottest player ahead of the captain’s pick. Glover finished 16th in the final standings, but he won back-to-back Wyndham
Championship and FedEx St. Louis titles. Jude Championship just as Zach Johnson’s captain selection decision was approaching.

Glover has appeared in two Presidents Cup events but has not yet qualified for the Ryder Cup.
“It’s easy to say three weeks later, two weeks later, and unfortunately they lost, but yeah, I wish I was there,” he told SiriusXM. “And I think I could have brought some different things to the table.”
