Sergio Perez has been warned that the upcoming races will be crucial if he wants to save his career at Red Bull Racing.
Martin Brundle has issued a warning to Sergio Pérez, stressing the need for the Mexican driver to improve his performance in the final five races of the 2023 season to secure his future with Red Bull.
Times have not been kind to Perez of late, with increasing pressure casting doubt on his Formula 1 career.
While Pérez started the season with two wins in the first four races, a disappointing run of results compared to his record-breaking teammate Max Verstappen has raised questions about his duties. 33-year-old player’s tenure at Red Bull.
Perez has publicly announced his intention to stay with the team in 2024, but potential suitors for his seat, including the returning Daniel Ricciardo, AlphaTauri star Yuki Tsunoda and the impressive Liam Lawson, have adds to the speculation.
In the wake of Perez’s lackluster performance in a dominant car like the RB19, his position at Red Bull appeared to be under threat.
Former F1 driver and veteran Sky Sports pundit Martin Brundle has stressed the “vital” nature of the upcoming races for Perez to retain his seat.
Brundle notes: “Red Bull cannot take a passenger into 2024 if he is not fit. »
Brundle further emphasized the importance of these races for Perez’s mental state and Red Bull’s confidence in his abilities.
He said: “So these next few races are important for him to take the lead and for Red Bull to believe that he hasn’t lost his way and that he can do it.”
Although Pérez’s bid for the championship suffered early setbacks, he is still vying for a once-in-a-lifetime achievement for Red Bull.
The manufacturer has never finished a season with its drivers occupying first and second positions in the standings.
Perez is currently still 30 points ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the battle for second place, making him a realistic prospect for Red Bull.
Brundle admitted that, although Pérez could not compare with Verstappen, the team’s expectations were always placed on him to be sure of second place.
“Sergio Perez and Red Bull want the same thing,” Brundle insisted.
They want him to get back in shape and if not beat Max then at least get a few second places and secure second place in the world championship.
